The San Francisco Daily Morning Call, July 14, 1864

A WIFE-SMASHER IN LIMBO. - Cruelty to wives appears to be the besettng aim of a certain class of persons. One of these, James Green, a resident of Union Place, indulged in this proclivity yesterday morning, breaking several of his wife's ribs, and bruising her most unmercifully. James was arrested, and is held in the sum of five hundred dollars for his appearance to answer before Judge Shepheard this morning. Failing to procure the required bail, he occupies a state-room in the basement of the City Hall building.
